Some of the Values that Shape My Work
Service to others has always been a strong part of my core belief system. In service to others I need to be clear about who I am and what I can do. Helping our graduate students reflect on who they are and what they can/will contribute to the care and well being of children and families has and continues to be a priority as a faculty member and special education teacher. As a member of Bank Street I continue to be deeply influenced by our history and credo and I try to try to help our students see the value of these commitments in their work.
Work with Families, Children, Schools, and Communities
Most of my professional life has been in direct service to children and families (as a teacher and as a director) by providing special education services to children, helping families understand their due process rights, and helping families advocate for their children. As a faculty member I work to help future teachers take on that role. Much of my professional development work is helping schools reflect, expand, and articulate their commitment to inclusion in early childhood.
Recent Professional Contributions
Provide presentations, workshops, and consultation (initial and ongoing) in areas of inclusion, service provision, and advocacy for children with special needs, teamwork/ collaboration with colleagues and families, and the value of reflective practice. Currently provide direct service to children as a SEIT (special education itinerant teacher).
