Coming Home: Former Graduate Faculty Member Susan E. Kluver Appointed Interim Dean for
Children's Programs
Dr. Susan E. Kluver, who has an Ed.M. and Ed.D. from Harvard University, and is currently interim head of the Bartlett School in Waltham, MA, has been named interim dean of Children's Programs for the 2008-2009 academic year. From 1993-2005,
she was head of the Pre-K to Grade Eight Fayerweather Street School in Cambridge, MA, where she increased enrollment, expanded programs and ran a successful capital campaign to enable the school to move to a better location.
Kluver has been connected to Bank Street in some capacity since the 1960s: with the Follow Through Project, managed by Bank Street's Elizabeth Gilkeson, from 1969-1983; and as a Graduate School faculty member from 1987-1991. "My return to Bank Street feels like coming home, in the sense of 'home' as the place that has had a formative influence upon my early thinking, values and practice of education," says Kluver. "I look forward to working with the staff, students and parents of Children's Programs. I see this as an opportunity to give back to an institution that has given me so much over time."
Kluver takes over from Dean Rudy Jordan, who is retiring after more than two decades. "Bank Street has a passion to meet the needs of children, and the knowledge to create and evaluate the programs that serve them best," says Jordan. "Susan is the ideal person to help continue this work." According to former President Augusta Souza Kappner, "Susan is a seasoned educational leader who brings a strong commitment to Bank Street, its mission and philosophy. She will create an environment of support for faculty, staff, parents and students as we transition from Rudy's many wonderful years."
